Do you have a talent for cooking? Got a secret family recipe you're eager to showcase? Then the SC Strawberry Festival wants to hear from you! If you have a delicious and creative way to showcase our signature ingredient, then we invite you to test your culinary skills by participating in our fourth annual strawberry recipe contest. Participants will compete in three sumptuous categories. We'll have lots of great prizes, including cash, festival merchandise, and of course, bragging rights. Many will enter, but only one will have what it takes to "Berry" the Competition!
To compete in the contest, all you need to do is fill out and return an official entry form (see below) by 5:00 pm on Friday, April 26, 2013. During the South Carolina Strawberry Festival on Saturday, May 4th, contestants will deliver their prepared recipe to the judges (between 9:00 am and 10:00 am). Entries will be judged based on taste, creativity, use of strawberries, and appearance. At 12:00 pm on the Founders Stage, we'll announce the first, second, and third place winners in each category, as well as "Queens' Choice" and the coveted "Best in Show" award winners.
There is no cost to enter, and participation is open to any amateur regardless of age or residency. Only 25 entries will be accepted in each category, so don't delay! For official contest rules and to download an entry form, please see below.
To participate, a valid entry form must be received no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, April 26, 2013. Only 25 entries from each category will be accepted. Participants are encouraged to submit their entry form as soon as possible. Forms may be submitted by mail, email, fax, or hand delivered to the Administration Office at Fort Mill Town Hall.
PARTICIPANTS WILL COMPETE IN ONE OF THREE CATEGORIES
On the day of the competition (May 4, 2013), you must deliver your fully prepared submission to the “Berry the Competition” tent at Walter Y. Elisha Park. Entries will only be accepted between 9:00 am and 10:00 am. NO EARLY OR LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Judging will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 4, 2012. Winners from each of the three categories, as well as the Best in Show winner, will be announced at 12:00 pm on the Founders Stage at the South Carolina Strawberry Festival. YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN.
Only 25 entries will be accepted for each category on a first come, first served basis. Participants may submit no more than one entry per category. A separate entry form shall be required with each entry submitted.
All entries MUST include strawberries as a key ingredient. Fresh, Certified SC Grown strawberries are preferred, though not required. To find a Certified SC Grown strawberry producer near you, please click here.
All entries must be homemade. Store-bought items such as crusts, mixes, or fillings are discouraged.
Prepared entries should have enough servings for 6 adults.
Recipes will be judged on the final product delivered. A list of all ingredients must be included on the entry form; however a full copy of the recipe (measurements and cooking instructions) is not required unless you would like your recipe to be included in a future Festival Cookbook.
Disposable containers are acceptable. If your entry needs to be refrigerated while awaiting judging, you may bring your own cooler. All coolers, containers, plates, covers, etc. are submitted at the contestant’s own risk. The festival organizers are not responsible for any lost or damaged items. Non-disposable items may be picked up from the judging table after winners have been announced. All items should be picked up no later than 1:00 pm.
Prepared entries will NOT be returned and will become property of the Town of Fort Mill.
All prepared submissions will be assigned a competition number when dropped off at the festival site on May 4, 2013. All entries will be blind taste tested, and the judges will not know the identity of the person who submitted the recipe.
Entries will be scored based on the following criteria, with a maximum of 100 points possible:
· First Place: First Place Ribbon, Official Festival T-Shirt, $100 cash prize
· Second Place: Second Place Ribbon, Official Festival T-Shirt, $75 cash prize
· Third Place: Third Place Ribbon, Official Festival T-Shirt, $50 cash prize
The winner of the "Queens' Choice" award, as selected by the 2013 Strawberry Festival Queens, will receive a $25 cash prize.
Only one entry will be good enough to “Berry" the Competition. The winning entry will receive “Best in Show” honors and an additional $200 cash prize!
